Principal's Corner

Meet Erik Jones, Principal

Welcome to Witter Ranch Elementary School! My name is Erik Jones, and I am very proud to be serving as the principal of Witter Ranch Elementary, a school that is excelling in so many ways. We will continue to be a school that exemplifies excellence with the Common Core Standards and the Natomas Unified School District Vision- “All NUSD students graduate as college and career ready, productive, responsible, and engaged global citizens.”

Witter Ranch Elementary School is in year nine of being an AVID school. The AVID program helps our teachers to better meet the needs of our learners and to continue to prepare students to be “College and Career Ready”. 95% of our staff are trained in AVID strategies and teachers regularly attend professional development opportunities to deliver an educational program that helps all students learn.  The following links will give a better understanding of AVID and how it will benefit your child. https://www.avid.org/what-avid-is  https://youtu.be/iIuvnXyhtQM  Witter Ranch is implementing AVID from preschool to 6th grade.

Here is a little information about me:
I bring to Witter Ranch over 30 years of educational experience and educational practice serving middle and high schools students prior to landing here at Witter Ranch. I have served as an administrator at Natomas Middle School and Natomas High School and have been a part of Natomas Unified Schools since 2005.

I attended University of California at Davis, and graduated with my degree in English. I received my teaching credential at California State University, Stanislaus and have since earned my master degrees from the University of Hawaii and National University. My wife and I have raised three boys who are exploring their education and places in college and the work world.
